PRP vs GFC for Hair Fall in Hyderabad: Which Treatment Is Right for You?

PRP and GFC both use your blood to support thinning hair, but they are prepared differently. Learn how dermatologists choose after a scalp exam.

Hair fall fills clinics in Hyderabad after monsoon sheds, exam stress, post-pregnancy months, and years of gradual thinning at the crown. Two options you will hear about are PRP, platelet-rich plasma, and GFC, growth factor concentrate. Both start with a blood sample. They are not the same injection, and neither is a substitute for finding out why hair is shedding.

This comparison is educational. The choice, if either treatment is suitable, is made after a scalp examination.

02

Start with the cause, not the syringe

Hair leaves the scalp for many reasons. Androgenetic alopecia is patterned thinning: a widening partition, a receding hairline, or a thinner crown, often with a family pattern. Telogen effluvium is a more sudden, diffuse shed after illness, fever, surgery, crash dieting, childbirth, or severe stress. The hair usually recovers over months once the trigger has passed, which is why injecting a stable shed too early can be unnecessary.

Other causes need different care. Thyroid disease, iron deficiency, some medicines, tight hairstyles, and scarring alopecias can all reduce density. Fungal patches in children, or smooth bald patches of alopecia areata, are not “PRP problems” until a dermatologist says so. A consultation that skips history and only sells sessions is incomplete.

Blood tests are used when the story suggests them, not as a package everyone must buy. Correcting a clear deficiency supports regrowth. It does not, by itself, rebuild a long-standing patterned hairline.

03

What PRP involves

For PRP, blood is drawn and spun so a portion rich in platelets can be separated. That portion is injected into thinning scalp in a grid of small injections. Platelets release growth factors that, in principle, signal tissue around the follicle. Sessions are usually repeated. Clinics differ in how they spin the sample, how much they inject, and how they space visits. Those details change the experience, so compare plans only after you know the method.

People often notice scalp tightness or a day of soreness. The hair is not washed immediately if the clinic asks you to wait. PRP does not transplant new follicles. It cannot fill a completely smooth, long-bald area the way surgery might. Expectations should stay on slowing thinning and improving calibre of existing hair, and even that varies.

04

How GFC differs

GFC also begins with your blood. The sample is processed to encourage platelets to release growth factors, and that concentrate is what is injected. The idea is a preparation focused on those factors, with fewer red and white cells than a typical platelet plasma. Clinics sometimes describe it as more comfortable or less swollen. Comfort still varies with technique, needle size, and the person’s scalp.

GFC is newer in many practices than PRP. It is fair to say the category is in active clinical use and that large, independent head-to-head trials with identical methods are still limited. This article will not quote a made-up success percentage. A dermatologist should explain what they have seen in patients like you, and what they cannot promise.

AB Skin Clinic outlines GFC for hair as one option that may be discussed. Whether GFC, PRP, medical therapy, or no procedure is appropriate depends on the exam that day.

05

What else belongs in the plan

For patterned thinning, topical minoxidil, and in selected adults oral medicines such as finasteride, remain the treatments with the longest track record. They have their own counselling points, including pregnancy and side effects, and they are prescriptions, not salon add-ons. Procedures are often added to this base, not used instead of it, when the doctor wants more support.

Low-level laser devices, nutritional correction, and treating dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis also come up. A flaky, itchy scalp should be calmed before you judge any injection. In Hyderabad’s humidity, sweat and heavy oils left on the scalp can worsen irritation. Oil does not “regrow” follicles by sitting overnight.

A hair transplant is a separate surgical discussion for stable patterned loss when donor hair is adequate. PRP or GFC is sometimes mentioned around surgery by some surgeons. That decision belongs to the operating doctor.

06

Questions worth asking

  • Is this shedding, patterned thinning, or a scar?
  • Do I need tests before any procedure?
  • What preparation method do you use, and how many sessions are typical for my pattern?
  • What should I continue at home, and what should I stop?
  • What will we do if density does not change after the planned course?

Photos in the same lighting, a few months apart, are more honest than a mirror check the next morning. Hair shafts grow slowly.

07

Who should pause

Active scalp infection, unrealistic hope for a bald patch with no follicles, uncontrolled expectations during a short post-fever shed, and pregnancy are common reasons to wait or choose another path. Tell the doctor about blood disorders and medicines before a draw.

You can book an appointment for a scalp review or see the doctor page for her background. Bring earlier prescriptions and, if you have them, photos from six to twelve months ago. The comparison between PRP and GFC only becomes useful after someone has named the type of hair loss you actually have.
